Our goals
We are a group of students and staff who believe that the University of Sheffield needs to take a lead on reducing its carbon emissions in line with the carbon reductions required to avoid climate chaos. The Carbon Neutral University Network aims to achieve its vision through:
- Connecting the University and wider local community
- Providing and Developing Sustainable Solutions
- Holding the University to account
About our network
So far, more than 300 people have joined our network and more people are registering every week. We hold monthly open meetings where we discuss the overall goals and progress of the network, as well as smaller group discussions focussing on specific projects. We also host socials, public events and seminars and collaborate with various environmental groups within the University and in the surrounding area. Take a look at our upcoming meeting and socials on the events tab, or on our facebook page.
The network is made up of a steering committee, which coordinates and monitors the projects and ideas developed by the various working group. Currently, these groups focus on specific aspects of our Carbon Neutral mission; "Renewable and Self-Generation Energy Solutions", "Buildings and Energy Efficiency", and "Behaviour Change". A representative of each group sits on the steering committee as well as the members listed below:
Current Steering Committee
Co-Chairs: Christian Unger and Rachael Treharne (PhD student)
Co-Secretaries: Lucy Palfreeman (student) and Sarah Boddy/ Diana Rien
Communications: Stephen Folkes (student) and Aaron Thierry
Subgroup and project coordinators (part of Steering committee):
Buildings and Energy Efficiency Lead: open for new lead
Behaviour Change Lead: Caroline Verfuerth
Self Generation Lead: open for new lead
Systems Change Event Lead: Adam Howard
We also have an affiliated student society "CNUSoc" embedded in our network, whose committee and aims are listed on the CNU Student Society page.
Please get in touch if you have relevant knowledge or expertise in any of the subgroup focus topics. If you think we have missed an essential subgroup please tell us, we're open to any and all suggestions!
