In his talk, John Grant argues the case for aquaponics, a method of food production that combines fish farming with crop growing. Water containing fish waste products is circulated through plant beds which draw nutrition from the waste, and clean the water for reuse in the fish tanks. With soil degradation occurring at an alarming rate, aquaponics provides a potential solution that enables local food production in both urban and rural environments.
